Themed Drives
Food drives serve an important role that help stock the shelves of the Food Pantry. Since the Food Pantry offers those in need with more than food, we also encourage volunteers to host themed drives to provide clients with needs other than food.
Single Food Item Drive:
Focus on one item for your drive such as canned meals with meat, macaroni & cheese, cookies, breakfast bars, juices or cereal. Participants find this method easy and may pick up the item when it is on sale. Create an ongoing drive where a different food item is collected each month. For one month jars of peanut butter is collected, while cans of tuna are collected for the next month, and so on.
Birthday party drive:
We’ve heard countless stories from our clients who have been unable to afford even a small birthday celebration for their children. You can help by hosting a birthday party drive, collecting cake batter mix, frosting and sprinkles, birthday napkins, party favors, candles, balloons and other items to help a family celebrate a child’s birthday.
Bare Necessities drive:
Providing nutritional food is our main focus but we do distribute other items to families in need. It helps them to stretch whatever resources they have available. Many clients can’t afford toiletry items, such as soap, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, razors and shaving cream, toilet paper, facial tissue, hand and body lotion, etc.
Favorite Breakfast Items drive:
Collect just breakfast food items, such as cereal, pancake mix, syrup, juice, etc.
Kid’s Favorite Snacks drive:
Take a look at what your kids love to have for a snack, such as fruit bars, granola bars, cookies, chips, etc.
PB & J drive:
Collect the fixings for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Household drive:
Look around your house and take a look at all the different items you use for cleaning and laundry. Many clients can’t afford items such as laundry detergent, dish detergent, cleansers and paper towels. We have many clients who live in transient housing or are even homeless, who need such items as napkins, paper plates and eating utensils.
We always welcome new ideas and are continually impressed with the input of our volunteers. Please contact us with any new suggestions.
PLEASE NOTE: The Food Pantry does not distribute expired food or food received in compromised packages (dented cans, crushed boxes, damaged bottles or lids, opened packages, etc).
As the donated food is hand-sorted by volunteers, it's checked for expiration dates and package integrity. All food items that are outdated or exposed due to package failure will be considered unfit for human consumption and discarded.
Please remember this when collecting and/or donating food so the food donated will be of the highest quality, safe to consume and have a substantial shelf life for distribution purposes.
Please Plan to Deliver Donated Food Items
Not unlike your home, resources are tight here at The Food Pantry. We do not have paid staff drivers, a fleet of vehicles or significant fuel budgets to complete pick-ups so it's best for you to deliver your donation directly to The Food Pantry (address & map).
Yes, we realize we are asking you to do so after you’ve been thoughtful enough to conduct a food drive, but we hope that you’ll understand and take this extra step on our behalf.
Thank you for your cooperation.
